Thanksgiving Mantel

Thanksgiving is right around the corner! I'm hosting this year, so I wanted to start decorating the house! I started with my mantel. I used a bunch of scrapbook paper and made the paper wheels as well as the banner. It's inexpensive and the colors look great.

I printed this Thanksgiving print from Eighteen25. I love how they put this print out each holiday!

I used leaf garland to hang along the mantel. The banner was hung with twine and put a mini paper wheel at the end of each.

I filled a vase with lentils and split peas from my local grocery store. It gives the vase a harvest feel. I then added an festive arrangement to the vase.

Halloween Birthday Party

I had the pleasure of creating a dessert table for a 10 year olds birthday party this past weekend. The family was so nice, and the theme was so fun! I'd been wanting to create a Halloween theme party for some time now!

Pumpkin cookies!

I made carmel covered apples and dipped them in sprinkles. These went fast!

I used milk bottles and filled them with orange Gatorade and attached a scallop punch printable cutout.

How gorgeous is this cake? It worked perfectly with the dessert table.

Deen's Mom put together the goodie bags. I loved how they turned out!

It was such a great day and fun party! I love seeing the kids swoon over the dessert table. It's my favorite part of the entire thing. Their eyes just light up when they see all the goodies! This is a picture of when they first discovered the table.

Taking a Break

Party Checklist

When I host a party, I also make lists. To stay organized, so I'm always writing lists out to make sure nothing gets missed. While browsing Martha Stewart's site I notices she has a All Occasion event planning checklist. This would be helpful for any time of occasion. Especially with the Holidays here before we know it, this will come in handy!

Some tips for planning parties that I've learned is:

Get a head count. Make sure you have an RSVP response on your invitation. Also call or email as the date gets closer if you haven't heard from some guests yet. It's better to have the correct number and easier to coordinate your party.

Map out your party. Get and idea and schedule that you'd like for the day. It doesn't have to go exactly to plan, but it's best to have an idea.

Example:

Craft from 1-:30pm

Food & Cake 1:30-2pm

Presents 2pm-2:30pm

Favor pass out/thank yous 2:30-3pm

Relax and enjoy the party. It's very easy let the party get the best of you if something goes wrong. Relax, go with the flow and enjoy the occasion.

Summer/Fall Transition

Can you believe summer is almost over? Where did the time go? I wish it was longer, however I do love the transition of getting the kids back to school. The kids love picking out new clothes, backpacks, supplies, & shoes. Fall is one of my favorite seasons, but I dislike what comes after: {Winter} But, I'm not going to get ahead of myself- It is still only August.

Here's a look into our wonderful summer as well as what I'm looking forward to in the fall!

The kids would swim all day if they could! These two are such fishes! I love this photo of them! They were using our slip n' slide in our backyard.

We spent LOTS of time up on the lake at my parents. We are so lucky to have them only a couple hours away. We have such a blast up there! Its great to see all the cousins together, and spending time with family. I cherish the memories we create each summer up there.

What I'm looking forward to this fall:

Adult Alice in Wonderland Inspired Party

Growing up, Alice in Wonderland was one of my favorite movies. When one of my best friends decided to host a birthday party, I knew Alice in Wonderland would be the perfect theme. She's fun, whimsical and full of personality just like the theme. Of course, this theme needed lots "eat me" and "eat me" tags and signs, so I started there. Also, I knew I had to have a ph0tobooth. Photobooths are so trendy right now! I've been seeing them at lots of weddings! I created some colorful whimsical printables to go along with the theme.

I wanted the dessert table to be playful and fun. I used cotton candy, cupcakes, and cookies to help bring out that side. Because it was an adult party, I also did Sour Apple Martinis, and Strawberry shooters using test tubes. For a kids party, you could just eliminate those items, and have sugar rimmed punch for the kids.

I found a floral fabric that I love so I turned it into a tablecloth. I added a white wavy boarder around the bottom. I love how it turned out. I also used some Easter pitchers for decorations on the table.

The martini's seemed to be a big hit. They are an easy drink to make, and really stand out!

I created lots of printables for the party! I even made some to look like playing cards from the movie. I also used a "2" & "6" for the birthday girls age.

I created the cookie tower using a dowel and some floral plates I already had. It was great serving piece, which I used some store bought cookies. The strawberry shooters were such a fun time! I wasn't sure if people would take them, but it was a fun, unique way to have a drink. I topped each one off with a colorful jewel.

Photobooths are SO fun! I used items such as frames, boas, hats, & necklaces as props along with the printable signs & hats I made. Once I printed the signs, I went to my local Loews store and asked for some paint stirrers. I spray painted each of them and hot glued some colors jewels. They turned out really cute.

Aren't the hats so fun and cute?? I love them!

The birthday girl (on the left) as well as my other friend who went above and beyond to give her a special day!

Jungle Theme Cake!

This past weekend I made this Jungle Themed cake for a baby shower. I was asked on Wednesday night, and the shower was for Saturday. {Crunch Time.} I think it turned out really cute. I based the cake off the nursery bedding which had a monkey, giraffe and lion. I also spread fondant leaves and fondant bananas all around the cake. The cake was layered chocolate and vanilla with buttercream frosting. Hope you enjoy the pics!

FREE School Printables!

The start of the school year is fast approaching us here on the East Coast... I can't believe how fast Summer went by. I wanted to create some simple printables to use on the kids supplies, books and for their lunch money. It seems like their items are always being mixed up with others and I'm constantly sending in new ones. Hopefully, this will help them keep track of their belongings. I used colors that will work for boys & girls and a simple design for all ages.

The labels included are for Crayons, Markers, Books, & Lunch Money. Also included are a few blank designs, which I happened to use for their pencil boxes and scissors. They would be perfect for glue sticks too! We all know how fast those disappear! Some other ideas for the blank labels are for lunch boxes, thermoses, rulers. & more! I printed mine on full sticker sheets, but you can print them on regular paper if that's what you have. I suggest using double sided table to hold them in place. I hope you enjoy the items and everyone has a great school year!

Pirate Party

I recently hosted a Pirate celebration for the annual girls & kids weekend my family holds. We always like to do something special for the kids! The setting was perfect. My parents live right on the lake, so the kids thought they were real pirates on the "Sea" and going on voyages {On the Paddle boat.. too cute} I used the dock to set up our food table. I used the printable collection from Anders Ruff, which I think is so cute. I covered the table with a black table cloth and topped it with netting from the dollar store. I created a big sail using fabric that match the printables. I added other items like Corks, Red Glass bottles and treasure to style the table. For food and drink, we had Pirates Beer {Root Beer}, Treasure maps {Fruit roll ups tied with twizzlers}, Cannon balls {whoppers}, Planks {Fudge cookies}, Catch of the Day {Swedish fish}, and two types of cupcakes. I had cupcakes with pirate toppers from Cookie Covers, as well as cupcakes I made with brown sugar and used the printable collection to make parasols.

I added a pennant banner to my large sail to give it something extra. The Cannon balls were a big hit with the kids. I also used the printables to cut out some of the pattern and dress up my sail boat. I also made sails to go on top of my rice crispy treats, which you can see my tutorial here.

The "Catch of the Day" was my favorite addition to the table.

How adorable are these fondant pirates? I ordered them from Cookie Covers on Etsy. I made the other cupcakes using chocolate frosting dipped in brown sugar and topped of with parasols I made and a chocolate gold coin.

To give the Root beer and extra touch, I added a cork to each of them and some of the pattern paper underneath the drink wrap.

For the seating area, I used a charger plate that I added some red and gold jewels to. I topped it with a red plate and name tag. The table had skeleton heads and coins for decorations.

The pirate goblets were a great find at the dollar store. I really liked how they looked with the table.

We used the dock as our "walk the plank."

The kids had a great time doing the scavenger hunt. It was a really fun activity for them.

A tent fit for Pirates only! Arghh! We also had an areas with sand and coins for the little ones to dig for treasure.

Lastly, some of the kids enjoying themselves throughout the weekend!

Pirate Cupcake Toppers: Cookie Covers on Etsy

Pirate Sails

Ahoy! I'm hosting a pirate party this weekend and put together these sails to go on top of Rice Crispy Treats. There is the tutorial for you!

First take two pieces of printed card stock and cut them in shapes of how you'd like your sails. I made the top one large, and the bottom one a little smaller. You will also need a bamboo stick, scissors and your hot glue gun.

Once you have your sails cut out, you need to cut a piece off leaving the middle section. That will be the piece folding and glued to the bamboo stick.

Next, glue the top piece of your sail to the bamboo stick, letting it completely dry before you glue the bottom piece. Once dried, bend the sail and clue to bottom part to the stick.

Repeat this above step for your bottom sail. Once dry, your sail is complete! Use on a cake, any dessert, or whatever will work for your party! Enjoy!!

Buffalo Chicken Bites

When I saw this recipe going around the web, I just had to try them! These are the perfect size for appetizers for cocktail parties, birthday parties, showers and more! {And they are insanely delicious!} I made these the other night and they were so easy! Be sure to try them out! You wont be disappointed!

Buffalo Chicken Bites

Ingredients:

3 cups shredded cooked chicken (About 1 store-bought rotisserie chicken, skin discarded)
1/4 to 1/2 cup hot sauce (or more to your taste)
3 1/2 oz. cream cheese, softened
1 3/4 cups sharp or medium shredded cheddar cheese
1/4 cup sliced green onions
1 cup all-purpose flour
4 eggs, lightly beaten
3 – 4 cups Corn Flakes cereal, crushed

Preheat oven to 350˚F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. In a large bowl, mix the chicken, cream cheese and hot sauce until combined. Stir in the cheddar cheese and green onions.

Using a small cookie or ice cream scoop, spoon out the chicken mixture and roll into about 1 1/2 inch balls. Place on a plate or separate baking sheet (not lined) until ready to dip.

In three separate bowls, set out the flour, eggs and Corn Flakes. Dip each chicken ball first into the flour, then the egg and ending with the Corn Flakes. Place on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20 to 25 minutes. Serve warm with ranch or blue cheese dressing.

**If freezing for later, place the dipped and uncooked chicken balls onto the parchment lined baking sheet and flash freeze for 15 to 20 minutes. Transfer to a freezer bag and store in the freezer until ready. To bake, place the frozen chicken balls back on a parchment lined baking sheet and bake at 350˚F for 25 to 30 minutes, until crispy and golden brown.

Beach Theme Wedding

I had the pleasure of helping a friend with her wedding this past weekend! She chose a beach theme since she grew up and still lives right on the ocean. The colors were blues and white. I founds some beautiful sea shell covered balls that I hung on the banisters with navy tulle. I also used lanterns and filled them with flame less candles. I strung the lanterns above the stairway entrance into the reception site. I also mixed in star fish that I hot glued to some ribbon. It turned out really pretty together. And once the lights were dimmed, the lanterns really stood out.

For the favors, the bride chose a candle with monogrammed matches. We placed them in a navy organza bags and tied with ribbon and a personalized favor tag we punched with my go to scallop punch.

How gorgeous does the cupcake tower look? I love how brides are choosing cupcakes instead of cake. It's very trending right now and I love how the display looks. The cupcakes were chocolate and vanilla with butter cream frosting. White chocolate star fish were places on the cupcakes as well as fresh hydrangea flowers.

Bunco Party

Here's quick post while I'm on vacation. I recently created a party in a box for my mother who was hosted a bunco party for her friends. I stuck with red, white and black colors. I made her cupcake toppers, favor tags, a banner and water bottle labels. She did a great job setting the party up herself!

She made really cute cupcakes! She used sugar cubes and an edible marker and made dice. Love them!

She even used the water labels for vase wrappers. Smart idea! The lips were also on the table which are a free printable from Living Locurto.

Cakes, Cakes, Cakes!

My passion is planning and styling, but I also do alot of baking for my parties as well. I don't LOVE baking, but I do enjoy it. I've made a few cakes for some recent parties that I wanted to share with you. I find cake making to be somewhat stressful. The littlest thing can go wrong and you are just "off" for the rest of the cake. Luckily, I haven't had too many of these moments. I did however recently make a cake and it was a little slanted which drove me INSANE! Once it's all put together and decorated you can't go back and fix it! {I just wish people wouldn't look at it from the side.. I know, unlikely.} I do love the outcome of the cakes once they are all decorated. They can make a dessert table/birthday party!

This Mickey Mouse cake was one of the first I ever made! Like my Fondant Characters? Ha, JK- I WISH! I totally cheated and bought a couple characters from the Disney Store to put around the cake. I think they looked so cute though! It's also an easy way for people to buy store bought cakes that are inexpensive and use your child's favorite character figure, race car, or truck on top. I covered this cake in fondant, and cut out fondant to make it looks like Mickey's House on the show. I added some grass and "Gwen" fondant circles to finish it off.

This Peace cake is the one that I had trouble with the slanting. I was so bummed. This cake was made for my daughters BFF {so they call each other} She is over my house often and sees me baking a lot. She asked me if I would make her cake for her birthday. Of Course I said yes!! I made the fondant peace signs and fondant flowers. I added some candy lettering and gumballs around the cake.

This cake is one of my favorites! I just love how it turned out. Blues clues is such a popular show still, and so may kids love it! I baked the entire cake Blue inside. The kids LOVED it. I made a bunch of fondant characters and a fondant house. I added clouds and grass to the cake.

For this barnyard cake and cupcakes, I made a simple "smash cake" and made a sheep laying on top made out of mini marshmallows. I think the sheep looks so adorable! I surrounded the cake with cupcakes adorned with cupcake toppers. I love how they look together!

This was my first Blues Cakes. So by the time I made the second one, I knew what I wanted to fix. The cake was meant to be a little more girly than the traditional colors. Don't look at my Blue. I know, I know the colors are opposite! But overall I still think it turned out really cute! The birthday girl loved it which is the most important part!!

Building a Shop!

I'm in the process of creating some "Parties in a Box" along with some other items for my shop! My goal is to focus on parties that will be shipped right to you with no need to lift a finger! I want to have everything ready for you to put on the party table and enjoy! I'm even going to offer favors in the boxes to make it that much easier for you! There will be paper goods, cupcake toppers, banners, invitations, thank you cards, favors and much more! Here's a little sneak peak a few items I started to create! I hope you like!

July 4th Get Together

I recently had a very small get together, but just because it was small didn't mean I couldn't make it special! Even if you are only having a few people over, you can still throw together a great setting! The first thing I set out to do was gather items from my house. It's amazing what you can find for decorations when you look around. I pulled things from my living room, dinning room, kids room, and even broke out the Christmas box for a few red items. Once I found my decorations, I spent some time putting together the printable collection I purchased from Shindig Parties to go for $9! Now that's a deal :) I also picked up some lanterns and a few items from my local Target.

I set everything up in my backyard on the lawn. I had an adult table that I kept more sophisticated, and then I had a kids table that was playful and fun! I set up the adult table right beneath a tree in my yard. I hung a bunch of lanterns and paper daisies above the table. I used red charger plates, white dinner plates, and then a flag printed bowl. I had some beautiful hydrangeas on the table as well. For the seating, I used my grandmothers deacon bench for one side and stools for the other.

The kids table, I used a red table from Ikea, milk bottles with soda, and red plates. The table was also coordinated with the printable collection.

For the food table, I created it for both the adults & kids. Food on the table was Pulled Pork, Corn on the cob, cucumber salad, mini spoons filled with mac n cheese, pasta salad, hot dogs, potato chips, corn bread, parfaits, and cupcakes!

{Free Printables} Summer Goodie Bags

Now that schools are doing away with baked goods because of all the allergies kids have, it's tough to figure out what to send in for year-end goodie bags. I could do candy, but first graders don't need any more sugar to keep them active. Then I thought Bubbles, but those are good for preschool and kindergartners.

I saw a big bucket of Chalk the other day while shopping and I thought- Perfect! Fun activity for kids to play with outside, and it doesn't break the bank. I picked up a couple buckets, enough for each kid to receive 3 pieces of chalk.

Blue and White Anniversary Party

I was a part in planning a surprise 25th Anniversary party this past weekend. I was asked to create a Blue & White table for the couple because those were their wedding colors.

Unfortunately the weather was not so cooperative. It rained all day long! I was trying so hard to keep my tissue paper flowers from getting wet while transporting them from the car to their house. Luckily, they held up pretty well! I combined all the flowers over the table. They looked so pretty together!

I spray painted the "W" blue and set it on top of the cupcake tower to represent their last name. I made a bunch of cupcakes and added some toppers to them.

There was also chocolate covered oreos, rock candy, hershey kisses, chocolate covered pretzels, hard candy, and peppermint patty pieces.

I also had a banner across the table which had pictures of the couple and family through the years.

Summer Camp Out

With Summer here, I can't stop thinking about camping out! {mind you I'm not much of a camper, but there are lot of parts I do enjoy.} I've put together some inspiration for a kids camp out party. I'm going to host a night with my kids and their friends with this theme. I think it's so much fun for them! The party can be done on an inexpensive budget which I think it's why I love it so much.

Here are some inexpensive ideas I've thought about:

*Borrow a tent from a friend/neighbor. (Weather the kids decide to sleep outside or not, it will set the tone for the entire party!)

*Every campout party NEEDS S'Mores!

I have fond memories of making these while growing up! Having a camp out fire outside to roast marshmallows is a great activity for the night. Have the kids walk around your yard to find sticks to roast their marshmallows. Buy a few supplies from your local grocery store and S'More away!

* Have a picnic. Set up an old sheet and sit around to enjoy some camp out foods. BBQ foods, and trail mix are inexpensive foods that are easy.

*Flashlights & Stories. Buy a few inexpensive flashlights and sit around the campfire and have the kids tell some stories. If you don't have a campfire, sit outside the tent on your set- It will work just as well!

Push cake pops are the newest trend! How perfect and festive are these pops from Frog Prince Paperie? I love them!

Memorial Day Inspiration

I love Memorial Day. In New England, it's the kick off to Summer and Cookouts! I'm hosting my own cookout, so I was searching the web for some inspiration to display desserts. Arrgh!! A friend of my family Jill Jones Grotnes recently threw her little pirate man Ollie a very fun filled pirate adventure birthday party. I saw her pictures on Facebook and needed to share! From the cake, to the DIY pails, to the treasure hunt, this party was darling! Jill used old pails she had from her baby shower and spray painted them white. She then hand painted the guests name and pirate graphics. Jill couldn't find gold coins for the treasure hunt, so she used gold wrapped candy Rolos instead- Brilliant! The cake looks amazing! What little pirate wouldn't love that?

Blues Clues Party

I was asked to put together a Blues Clues party for a little girl on Tuesday and the party was Saturday. While still working a full time job, I only had a few evenings to put it all together- but I was up for the challenge.

I found a blue polka dot fabric that was great for the backdrop. I added a “Robin” banner that I created on the computer. I surrounded each side with a couple balloons.

I wanted to use a couple of popular characters to be the focal points on each end of the table. I purchased a shovel and pail and painted the faces of the popular characters “Shovel & Pail.” I filled the pail with floral foam, covered it with gumballs and stuck marshamallow pops out of the top.

For the other side of the table I created “Mailbox.” I painted a mailbox. I placed him on a stick surrounded by a little white fence and fake grass.

I cheated for my cookies. I was making the cake which took a lot of time, so to keep down on my baking, I purchased sugar cookies from my local grocery store. I made paw prints out of fondant and added them to the cookies. I thought they looked adorable!

I also had blue popcorn boxes that I filled with cotton candy and named them “Blue's Dog Fur.” (Yes, a little strange when you think of the name, but it was fitting- I had to!)

The table also had Tickety Tock soda pops, chocolate covered pretzels, chocolate covered oreos, doggie treats (scooby doo graham crackers), and cupcakes with toppers.

I created Handy Dandy Notebooks for the kids which had coloring pages of all the characters inside.

The cake was the hit of the party. I created a bunch of the characters out of fondant as well as Blue’s House. I dyed the cake mix blue, which was the hit! When they cake was cut the kids yelled “IT”S BLUE!” They were so excited to eat a cake that was blue.

30th Birthday Dessert Table

My sister threw my brother in law a suprise 30th birthday party this past weekend. She had asked me to create a table featuring all of his favorite foods. We started off with a list of his goto treats: Mounds, Butterfinger bars, peppermint patties, oreos & milk, sour patch kids, sweedish fish and more! I used these store bought items, and created a table on a pretty low budget. Instead of buying all kinds of lavish desserts, I opened all the items and placed them on nice white places. It gave them an upscale feel instead of being in the wrapper. Also sticking with a budget, I made the cake myself. To dress the cake up, I used simple green and black ribbon to wrap around. I also created a happy 30th birthday sign to stick out from the top.

Peace, Love & Cupcakes

Lola's 7th birthday party was celebrated this past weekend. It was a day filled with Peace, Love & Cupcakes. Lola is very into the "Peace" craze right now. She has a Peace room, clothes, bags, you name it, it's peace. When I started planning her party, she told me she wanted a peace party. My first thought went to the tie-dyed 70's look and I didn't want that. I wanted to make it young, fun, and current.

When I started to plan the party, I wanted someone to create the printables for me. Immediately, I knew who I wanted. After seeing her son's winter wonderland party, I knew I wanted Rebecca from Fresh Chick Design Studio. Her work stands out to me, and I was so happy when she was willing to create everything for me. {By the way, she was an absolute delight to work with. } She took my vision and turned it into exactly what I was looking for. I couldn't have asked for anything better.

For the dessert table, I started with a purple backdrop and surrounded it with a bunch of different color paper daisy's. I used one of the poster's that was created for the party to be the center point over the table. It read- "Peace, Love & Cupcakes."

On the table were a variety of different snacks and candy. I came up with some names using terminology from back in the 70's.

I had glass vases filled with "Groovy Gumballs, multi color twizzlers, and button candy.

I saw these cupcake pops at the store the other day and knew I wanted to incorporated them into the party. Aren't they adorable? I used a ceramic white vase filled with gumballs to stick them in.

Also when I was planning the party I knew I wanted to a cupcake cake to fit the theme. The cake was HUGE! It was so pretty I didn't even want to cut it. I put the cake on a stand in the center of the table. The girls couldn't get over that it was an actual cake. It was so cute.

I made some regular size cupcakes too for the dessert table.

These notebooks were one of the only things on the table that weren't edible. I just thought they were too cute to leave out or put right in the favor boxes. I also had some cookies with m&m's for our "Peace out cookies."

What child doesn't love Rock Candy on a stick? I used the "rock on" term for these popular treats! The girls weren't straight to them.

These lollipops were my favorite! I found these during valentines day, and couldn't wait to use them! They were perfect! I also liked how they weren't the traditional round peace sign.

Love Machines? So cute right? I found these heart shaped gumball machines after valentines day and changed the gumballs to multicolor ones. I liked these because it tied in the "love" party of "Peace, Love & Cupcakes."

These Peace sunglasses were the only other non edible item on the table. They girls had so much fun posing for pictures with these on!

I wrapped individual Hershey bars with these printables.

These pops were also a big hit with the girls.

You must have Groovy water right?

For the table, I used polka dot plates for each setting. For the girls to know where they were sitting, I used the extra food tags to stick on their strawberry or orange sodas and added their names to them.

"All you need is Love" was a saying I thought of last minute but wanted for the party. Rebecca was so great in creating this on such short notice. I originally wanted it for a sign for photos, but last minute, I added two to the signs to the table. The table had fresh crazy daisy's in the center, and also cupcakes lining the table.

I used this "Happy Birthday" sign to greet guests as they entered the party room.

For the favor table, I found a Peace fabric that I really liked. I used that as my backdrop, surrounded it with hot pink tulle, and made three paper tissue balls to hang above. I used a "Happy 7th Birthday Lola" poster to hang in the middle.

Each girl was given a pink polka dot box filled with goodies! The girls went home with heart shaped sunglasses, a peace necklace, cupcake notebook, a couple peace theme pins, and a fun dip candy.

Last, but centainly not least, the birthday girl blowing out her candles on her special day!

Hi Everyone!

When I first started out planning parties, I searched and searched trying to figure out how people made these gorgeous backdrops for their tables.

If you are planning an event somewhere, you can't use their wall as your cork board and stick tacks all around it to hang your fabric. I never found a great answer to what I was looking for, so I came up with a solution myself.

While making cake pops one night at my sisters house, my brother in law gave me a piece of insulation foam board that he had cut to hold my cake pops up. He told me that he got it at the hardware store and they are very large.

{Light Bulb ON} These would be perfect for a backdrop. They aren't too heavy and the thickness is perfect. I'll just go to Lowes and buy a large one and cut it! Brilliant!

My first trip there I looked like a lost little girl trying to find what I was looking for. Luckily, a worker at Lowes helped me. {yes, he looked at me like I had 9 heads when he asked me what I was using it for} Once I found the perfect one, he offered to cut it for me, because they are HUGE. Of course that didn't cross my mind when I drove my little car there thinking I could just throw it in the backseat.

Of course, my first trip also had me outside trying to shove these boards into my car because he cut them too big! Thank god for the man parked next me who had a box cutter. {Yes, I got a lot of looks that day.}

Now when I go, I know exactly what I want and how big I want them.

So in one large piece, you can get two backdrops and some extra.

I have mine cut 40 inches long and buy two yards of my fabric that I want to cover it.

I use my hot glue gun to glue all around the backside of the board. You can dress up your board with banners, pictures, and so much more! The possibilities are endless.

I hope this helps a few people out there trying to find the perfect way to create a beautiful backdrop.

Easter Table

Easter will be here before we know it, so I wanted to share my table from last years Easter. I kept it simple and used pastel green, yellow, and blue colors. I first started off with making a the floral arrangement. I'd seen variations of this online before and knew I had to try and make one. Isn't it so festive? {These are the greatest gifts too}

To make, you need:

Two packages of peeps {the ones that stand up}

Two packages of jelly beans {so many great ones to choose from}

A flower bundle. {I usually use one of two packages of Tulips for this}

A large round vase

A small round vase

To make, start by placing the small vase inside the larger one. While holding the small one in the center, add jelly jeans around the edges making sure none fall into the middle vase. Once they are evenly spread out around, its time to add the peeps. You can use one color of peeps, two, or three. Here, I just used yellow, but you could alternate to make a pattern if you'd like. Take the peeps and place them over the jelly beans around the entire vase.

Once your candy is all in place, you can add your water and flowers. Fill the small vase inside up about half to three quarters full. Trim your Tulips so they aren't too tall for the vase. Add tulips to vase and you are finished! It's so quick and easy anyone can do it! Also not expensive!

For the table I started off with using a printed piece of scrap booking paper for place mats. This is an easy, and inexpensive way to dress up your table. I then placed a simple white plate one top. I used fabric napkins, with egg shaped napkin rings to go on top of the plate. I placed the arrangement in the center of the table and TA DA! Table Complete!

Well almost, I also went the extra step to create a few tissue paper flowers to hang above the table. These are pretty easy to make. They do take a little practice, but once you get the hang of them they are easy. Martha Stewart has a great tutorial here.

I hope you got some inspiration for your Easter table this year! I'm not hosting this year, so I don't set it all up. But wherever I do go, the host will sure be getting a Easter flower arrangement!

Purple Bridal Shower

A few weeks ago I styled and created this Bridal shower dessert table. The invitation had lavender and plum shades of purple, so I used those color throughout the table.

For the backdrop, I hot glued fabric on a foam board and added paper fan wheels in different shades of color. For the center paper fan I added a heart with the word "Love." I then surrounded the board with a purple lace.

I made everything for the dessert table. I made a mixture of chocolate and vanilla cupcakes with buttercream frosting. Some of the cupcakes were topped with purple fondant shaped hearts. I also but cupcake toppers on the cupcake on the tower. They said expressions such as: "I Do," and "Love," More treats on the table that I made were chocolate covered oreos, cakes pops, popcorn boxes & Hershey bars wrapped with a personalized wrapper.

I had an assortment of purple candies in the corner of the table in candy vessels. I used gumballs, dark Hershey kisses, and jelly beans. There were also cake pops in simple white and purple colors sticking out of a white planter vase.

I found this great "diamond ring" paper weight while shopping one day and knew I had to use it for the table. I put the ring in a glass dish surrounded by purple decorative pieces to make it stand up. The ring sat atop the cupcake tower.

I used the same lace that I had surrounded the backdrop with to create a pennant banner using pictures of the couple.

The favors given to guests were heart shaped wine stoppers. I wrapped each box in a printed paper to match the theme. I then wrapped a purple ribbon around the box and glued a "thank you" tag on it.

Barnyard Birthday Party

Hi Everyone!

Thank you for being patient while the site was being updated. I hope you like the new design!

It sure was a busy weekend at Live Smile Celebrate! I created a barnyard party for my nephew who turns 2 this weekend. My sister just added another addition to her family, so I took over the entire party while she tended to her new baby boy. {who by the way is so precious}

The party was held at Peekaboo Children's Center in Maine. The center is an indoor play area for children, and is a great location for a party.

For the table, I used a checkered fabric to cover the table to give it a

farm feel. Each place setting had two square plates which I layered, with a sticker on the top plate. The silverware was wrapped in a holder, and placed with a crisscrossed folk and spoon. Each child was also given a regular or chocolate milk. Lastly, each chair had a cowboy hat for each child. The kids were loving the hats! It was so cute.

I created a small cake for the birthday boy to have for his special day. I created a fondant sheep topper which I've seen around the Internet. Instead of using all fondant, I cut mini marshmallows to make his body. I also made cupcakes which each had a cupcake topper.

For the dessert table, I used a polka dot backdrop with a Happy Birthday Banner. I also made look a like Silos for each end of the table.

I used Ribbon to tie around the tops of water bottles to give them an extra touch. The milk bottles were adorable. I think they really completed the look of the party.

Animal crackers and marshmallow pops were on the dessert table!

The food was kept simple and appropriate for 2 year olds. We had an assortment of peanut butter, jelly, and fluff sandwiches. My sister Nicole of Chocolate Reasoning helped make and created the packaging for the sandwiches. I love how she made them! They looked like little presents. The sandwiches were made, then wrapped in press and seal wrap, and finally wrapped in paper with a sticker label of what each sandwich was. Also served was animal crackers and goldfish crackers.

We also had regular milk, chocolate milk, and water with lemon for the adult guests.

Guests were each given a barnyard filled with little animals for their favor. Overall, the party was such a great time. The birthday boy sure had a blast!

Rainbow St. Patrick's Day Table

I'm loving this simple, inexpensive Rainbow St. Patrick's Day table from Sheek Shindigs. How cute would this be a for a playdate? The gumballs are an easy filler for the vases and go with the color scheme. The rainbows on the vases tie the look all together. Did you see the oranges? I love that. It's a healthy snack, yet used for a decoration too.

I love the charger plate she used. It actually reminds me of a four leaf clover. The jello is such a cute and inexpensive way to create a special treat. Pokemon Balls

If you have a son, I'm sure you understand what it means to be a HUGE Pokemon fan.
The newest Pokemon game out on Sunday. It was such a big event, the store opened 4 hours early, had ballons and served doughnuts. Yes, there was even a line to get in the door! Last year for Dylan's birthday dinner, I made these Pokemon balls to hang from our chandelier. These were SO easy to make. I purchased all red beach balls from the party store for $.99 each. I painted the bottom half with white paint. (You could spray paint too) I then took black electrical tape and wrapped it around the middle. TA DA! Pokemon Balls! They were such a huge hit. (not to mention so cheap to make!) It's a great way to save money instead of buying all the license party products and create your own decorations.

Barnyard Inspiration

Hi everyone! I apologize for not posting lately. I've been very busy! I'm working on a bridal shower dessert table for next weekend, and my nephew's barnyard birthday party in a few weeks. I saw these pictures over at Sweets Indeed and think they are such great inspiration for Peter's party. I love the rustic feel with old tables and galvanized buckets. I also love the simple flower arrangements in mason jars and cans.

How adorable is this wheelbarrow? I actually found the cutest wheelbarrow planter the other day at the Christmas Tree shops which I plan on painting and using for the party. I think it's going to be perfect for the table.

What a great way to display popcorn cones. I love the old wood. Can't wait for the upcoming weeks to show you the parties I've been working on!

Blues Clues Inspired Birthday Party

My niece Gwen had a Blue Clue's inspired birthday party this weekend. I styled the dessert table & favors for the party. Gwen has been in love with Blues Clues for the past few months. Even though there isn't any new episodes on TV, Nick Jr still plays re-runs all the time.

First we found the invitation on etsy that my sister loved. It's made by Fine Line Stationary. We went with those colors for the party instead of the original blue, red, and yellow colors.

I created this house for the center of the table. I used a cardboard box and painted it to look just like the one on the show. I had a little banner at the top that said "Happy Birthday Gwen.".
I put marshmallows on a stick, dipped them in pink chocolate candy melts, and then colored sprinkles. The kids were loving these!

I made all the printables for the party including this "Gwen" banner that I hung above the dessert table.

I made the cake myself for the party. I made a couple of the popular characters from the show out of fondant to put on the cake. I had three layers of different colored cakes for the bottom, and the top of the cake was two different colors as well.

These gumball machines were one of the favors for the kids to take home with them.

Instead of the "Handy Dandy Notebook" from the show, I created these Handy Dandy Coloring Books for the kids to take home. I add one large crayon to each of the books. They were put in clear bags and tied off with a "thank you" tag.

Valentine's Day Playdate

Here are the pictures from the Valentine's Day Playdate I hosted.
I started with an Owl Theme. I think the owl sayings are adorable.I stuck with Your a Hoot, Owl be your Valentine, Look Hoo sent Valentines and Love Whoo You are)
I first found my backdrop from Walmart and went with those colors. (Pink, Purple, Red, and Black)I created a few printable items to go with the the theme. To create the table, I found some branches outside and spray painted them purple. I put them in a tall vase filled with jelly beans. I stuck a few Owls on the branches I filled candy in other vases and adorned them with purple ribbon and sparkly hearts from Target. I used easy store bought snacks for the afternoon and set them up on the table.

The table for crafts and eating was a small low coffee table and I used heart shaped pillows from Target for the girls to sit on. It was unique and different from the usual kids table and chairs. The girls really enjoyed sitting on the floor with their pillows. I layered white and red square plates and put their individual mailboxes on top. The silverware setup was inspired by Chris from Celebrations and Home from her Fall Engagement. I love how she had them crossed. I used a spoon and folk and added a little punch tag to them.

Pottery Barn Kids Table

I've been looking over the Internet for the some last minute inspiration for my Valentine's Day playdate. I love this kids table from Pottery Barn Kids. The mailboxes on the back of the chairs are adorable.

Buffalo Dip

We LOVE buffalo dip in this family! Here is a recipe I got from a friend, you must try it!
1 package of skinless chicken breast. (I use two packages of the chicken tenderloins)
1 cup of Franks Red Hot
1 cup Ranch Dressing
2 cups of shredding Cheddar Cheese. (I use the mixture of mild and sharp)
8oz package of Cream Cheese (softened)

Directions

Boil chicken until cooked. Once cooked, strain and shred chicken with two folks.
Mix cream cheese, ranch dressing, and franks red hot in a bowl.
Add shredded cheese and chicken to bowl and mix.
Place mixture into oven save pan. (I use a square pan)
Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
Serve with Tostitos Chips or Pita Chips!
Voila!

Valentines Chocolate Cookies

I love the blog Glorious Treats. The detail on all her cookies is amazing! I really want to try to make these Chocolate cookies. It seems we always make plain sugar cookies, so this is a nice change! (I know my sister Nicole would love these because she loves anything Chocolate!) Be sure to head over to her blog to see her beautiful work.

Chocolate Rolled Cookies

1 cup butter
2/3 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 egg
2 Tablespoons chocolate liqueur or extra strong coffee (this can be made with about 1 teaspoon of instant espresso dissolved into 2 Tablespoons warm water)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup cocoa powder
3 cups all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt

Directions:
1.) Sift together (or gently stir with a whisk) the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda and salt. Set aside.
2..) With an electric mixer cream together the butter, granulated sugar and brown sugar until fully incorporated and fluffy.
2.) Beat in egg, coffee or liqueur, and vanilla.
3.) Add in flour/cocoa mixture about 1 cup at a time. Blend until fully incorporated. (If you are using a hand mixer you may need to add the last cup of flour by hand).
4.) Divide dough into two or three large balls, place in a plastic bag and chill in the refrigerator 1-2 hours (if you're in a hurry, you can chill the dough for about 20 minutes in the freezer).
5.) Once chilled, work with one ball of dough at a time, and roll onto a lightly floured surface. I find it works best to place a sheet of parchment paper on top of the dough, and then roll on top of the parchment. This prevents the dough from sticking to your rolling pin, and you also don't need to add as much extra flour (as you would without the parchment).
6.) Cut out desired shapes with cookie cutters and place on a baking sheet.
7.) Place the baking sheet (with cookies on it) in the freezer about 5 minutes (this helps the dough keep it's shape when baked).
8.) Bake cookies for 7-10 minutes (depending on size) in a 350*F oven.
9.) Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet a few minutes and then transfer to a wire cooling rack.
10.) Decorate as desired.

My niece Gwen has her birthday coming up very soon! (such a big girl now) Here is the invite my sister Nicole (Her Blog-Chocolate Reasoning) ordered from Fine Line Stationary on Etsy. It's so perfect! I love it. She is thinking now to keep with the colors from the invite to carry on to the party instead of the blues clues products that you cant even find anymore. I think the party is going to be soo adorable!

Instead of a Handy Dandy Notebook(like on the show) I created a Handy Dandy Coloring Book with a few pictures from the show to color. I tied three crayons together and put them in a clear bag with a tag and bow. I'm sure we will tweak it a little bit, I quickly put it together to show an idea!

Barnyard Favors

I was at Target today. (you could say I'm there about 4 to 5 times a week.. yes it's a problem) Anyways... I just sucked into the trap as always. (I call the dollar bins the trap, because it literally traps me for a good 20 minutes before I even get into the store.)
I got such great things in the trap today. First, I got a bunch of things for the Valentines Playdate for Lola (you will see those items later), and then I found these. As you might have read in an earlier post, I'm planning my nephew's second birthday. I found the perfect favors for the party. Each child will get a little barn house with a couple of farm animals. I'm going to wrap them in clear bags with ribbon and a custom tag. They are just perfect!

Mom Cave!

For the longest time I've wanted to create a special space just for me! A place to be on the computer, a space for all my party stuff, and a place for me to create and design! Mom Cave is the word. I've had it in my mind that I would turn the computer room upstairs into my Cave. Cute, small room with one side filled of wall shelving. Then, after the kids had all their toys in our basement and NEVER went down there to play with them, I realized all their stuff was going to waste and we need to do something about it. Have of the basement is finished, half isn't, so for some reason they didn't like it down there. So, long story short- I turned their playroom into the computer room. Mom Cave- GONE. (Poor me, but now their playroom is adorable and they love it) After I was downstairs last night going through my party boxes in their old playroom, I thought- Perfect, this should be my mom gave. Tile Floors, white walls, heat, peace & quiet, away from everyone. I should have thought of this earlier! I don't' mind being down there, so why not! Now that's it's been on my mind since last night, I searched for some ideas and inspiration on what I'd like it too look like.

Does any have or want a mom cave?

Snowmen Galore

With all this snow around, I keep thinking of snowmen. Here are a few snowmen activities and treats!

Snowman Cupcake from Martha Stewart
This cupcake looks so easy to do, and of course looks extremely yummy!

Instructions: This snowman wears a fine winter hat: a chocolate-covered mint beret. His plump figure is two marshmallows -- cut a slice off the top one and squish to make it smaller. Dabs of icing hold parts together. His eyes are chocolate sprinkles (poke holes first with a wet toothpick), and his nose is cut from a gummy fish

Whimsical Snowman
How cute is this whimsical snowman craft from Family Fun I've been seeing this trend as a craft, cupcakes, and even cookies.

Materials:
White and colored felt
Tacky glue
White pom-pom
Black puffy paint
Craft foam (for nose)
Twigs (for arms)

Instructions
Cut a puddle shape from white felt and use tacky glue to attach a white pom-pom to the top.

With black puffy paint, add eyes, a mouth, and buttons. Glue on a craft foam nose and twig arms.

Wrap a felt scarf around Melty's neck and glue it in place.

Snowman Milk
This milk is so adorable. I love the doughnut hole for his head.

Instructions: A glass of milk takes on new deliciousness with doughnut-hole snowmen heads. Outfit powdered doughnut holes with eyes and a nose made of edible food clay. Pierce a hole through the center of the doughnut using a skewer and fit in a straw. Make a miniature scarf for the glass from orange yarn and trim it with scrapbook brads in the shape of snowflakes.

I wish I did this to the snowmen we made the other night! (They didn't make it through the night with the Blizzard winds, or I totally would have gone out and added it. Red food coloring around the cheeks completes the look for this snowman. I love it!

Barnyard Inspiration

My nephew Peter is turning two in April. (yes, I'm already starting to plan) Here are a few things I've found that are giving me inspiration and ideas. My sister will have a four week old newborn, so the planning falls on me. (which of course- I love!)

I'm totally going to use this egg carton as a favor. It's an easy way to save money and it's fits the theme!

I love the Overalls Giggledust Parties uses for their barnyard party.

Other ideas I'm thinking are sunflowers in glass jars, milk in bottles, cowboy hats, horse pony sticks, and creating landscapes out of cardboard boxes. The possibilities are endless!!

My Christmas Gift

Chris got me the galaxy for Christmas. I love it so much and I'm blogging from it right now. It has built in 3G, a camera, a video camera and endless apps. It does everything the ipad does, just smaller. Perfect for my train commute everyday. I don't think I'm ever going to get off it. I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. We had a great day filled with family, food, and gifts. Today, we are expecting a foot of snow. Sledding..here we come..

Christmas Party

Here are the pictures from our Christmas party we hosted this weekend. I hope you enjoy the pictures!

This was the dessert table for the party. I wrapped boxes up with red wrapping paper to add some height in different areas around the table. I used red and silver trees on each end of the tables to create a balance. I used a white backdrop and hung down a green wreath and added some mini silver balls to it. At the top I hung green, silver and red ornamnets.

Mickey Mouse Cake

Here is a Mickey Mouse Cake I did for my niece's first Birthday. Gwen loves Mickey Mouse clubhouse, so I volunteered to make her cake. My sister loved how it turned out! I used chocolate & vanilla cake with buttercream frosting. I topped it with fondant and Mickey Mouse characters from the Disney Store. Below is the birthday girl- I just LOVE her!
